Quaife high performance 5-speed transmission kit As power levels go up (and up, and up), the transmission becomes the weak point in the Miata. Above 250 wheel hp, drag racers start to shatter stock gearboxes. Above 300, nobody is safe. While there are rumors of case flex, the truth is that the teeth on the gears will rip right off because of the torque. Until now. Engineered and produced by Quaife, this is the solution to gearbox damage. The angle of the gear teeth has been reduced for a much stronger design and the Quaife engineers examined the entire gearbox and fixed weak points. It's a bit noisier than a standard Miata transmission but not as bad as a straight cut monster. As used in Matt Andrew's Time Attack Miata. This is not a complete transmission, but a new gearset. Professional assembly required, and we recommend new synchros and shifter forks at the same time. It is also available as a fully built transmission. The gearset is designed to use 1995 synchros and some slight clearancing of the carrier will be required to fit the beefier gears. Redline MT-90 should be used. As with many other racing parts, there is no warranty once installed. |
